Winning trophies is an inexact art. Some teams spend years building their sides through developing players and drafts while others can pull it all together in one season. FC Dallas in 2016 was a little bit of both. A side that has received plenty of praise for their development academy The Hoops finally pulled everything together thanks to a little luck and some key offseason signings. While the losses of Fabian Castillo (transfer) and Mauro Diaz (injury) hurt they could not keep Oscar Pareja’s side from winning the U.S. Open Cup and the Supporters Shield.
The question is now can Dallas add two more trophies to their growing case? A February test against Arabe Unido in the CONCACAF Champions League will go a long way towards deciding what type of season FC Dallas supporters can expect from their club in 2017. So too will the added expectations on Matt Hedges, Ryan Hollingsworth, Kellyn Acosta, Victor Ulloa, and Carlos Gruzeo who now must take on the challenge of being MLS Cup favorites.
