Houston Dynamo forward Erick “Cubo” Torres is returning to Liga MX on a loan deal to Cruz Azul. Los Cementeros will have the option to buy the Mexican forward if they are satisfied with his performance this season.

The Houston Chronicle’s Dynamo beat reporter Corey Roepken first reported the news on Saturday morning.

Torres joined the Dynamo in December 2014 on a five-year permanent deal as a designated player after Major League Soccer looked to retain the former 2014 MLS All-Star who scored 22 goals with the defunct Chivas USA.

He was loaned to Chivas for the Clausura 2015 season where he featured sporadically in Liga MX and helped the club to the Copa MX final.

Torres made his Dynamo debut in the 2015 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on July 21, 2015, a 3-1 loss where he came on as a substitute at Sporting Kansas City. He came on as a substitute on July 25, 2015, 3-0 home win against the LA Galaxy to make his league debut with Houston.

Throughout the last two seasons, Torres has only featured in 22 MLS matches and 7 as a starter. He has yet to score a goal for Houston, in any competition, and has provided two assists in league play.
