Houston Dynamo 3-Chicago Fire 0
The Houston Dynamo beat the Chicago Fire 3-0 and ending in fourth place in Major League Soccer’s Western Conference. With the win Houston earned the right to host Sporting Kansas City on Thursday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Orange, who clinched a playoff spot last week, needed the win and Kansas City to lose to secure a home match in the first round of postseason. And sure enough, Houston, which dominated the match from start to finish, placed themselves in a good spot after Brazilian defender Leonardo, scored in the second minute of the game.
From that point the home team controlled the rhythm of the match using the speed of its players. The Dynamo, which came out with an offensive starting line-up, created several scoring chances, but struggled to get a second goal. On the other hand, Chicago, which had already clinched a playoff spot in the east, controlled the possession of the ball at midfield, but was not effective in the last third.
A bad news for Houston came in during the first half when Defender A.J. De La Garza had to be substituted due to an injury. The team has not announced the extent of the injury yet.
Houston’s offense took advantage of the chances they created in the second half by scoring at the 68th and 75th minute, via Romell Quioto and Mauro Manotas for the final 3-0 in front of its crowd.
Now Houston will host Kansas City on Thursday, and Chicago will host the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday in the first round of the 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs.
