In a match that served as another test for coach Tab Ramos and the Dynamo FC, the Orange got a point against one of the league contenders, Los Angeles FC.
The Californians came to this match missing their best player, forward Carlos Vela, but with their minds set on getting three points in Texas. Also, they were looking to geta victory that will jump them to the first place of the standings, but the home team had different plans.
The match took place in a very fast pitch since most of the game saw a light rain that complicated some players, especially in defense. The first half was controlled mostly by the home team. They managed to control the ball at midfield and create chances on the break. Having Jose ‘Memo’ Rodriguez, Maxi Urruti, Fafa Picault, and Tyler Pasher gave Houston a good chance to play fast and create many chances to open the scoreboard. However, their last touch was imprecise.
As the match progressed, LAFC matched their rival’s effort and start creating some chances in offense as well. Due to this, the first half ended with a 0-0 in score sheet.
The second half saw the visitors playing a little more aggressive and wanting them to get the win. After having some chances to score, they found the lead with a goal from Corey Baird after his shot beat goalkeeper Marko Maric at the 55th. Houston found the equalizer only two minutes later when MLS newcomer Tyler Pasher got the ball inside the box from PIcault to score his first goal in MLS.
After the 1-1 both teams were very precautious in defense and midfield and even though there were some other chances for both teams to get the victory, the match ended with a 1-1 final result.
Now, Houston will travel north to face FC Dallas in the first leg of the Texas Derby. Los Angeles on the other hand will face LA Galaxy in a new edition of ‘El Trafico’. Both matches on Saturday May 8th.
