Houston Dynamo 5- Toronto FC 1
Toronto FC used an alternate team to face Houston Dynamo’s ‘A’ team. The results were as expected as the Dynamo took advantage of this and beat the defending MLS Cup Champions 5-1.
Houston returned home and performed the way they needed to. They pressured and looked aggressive against a Toronto FC team that had its mind on the CONCACAF Champions League final. That’s it. The home team took care of business in a way they should, and regained momentum in the West Conference where they are in seventh place with 8 points after 6 matches played.
The Dynamo scored fast in the match. Colombian Mauro Manotas and Brazilian Leonardo each scored in the first seven minutes to give a comfortable lead to the Orange. Toronto looked confused and their lines were not connecting well to stop the home team’s attack.
After 25 minutes on the match, Toronto leveled the actions and created some options to score. Even though the opportunities were not clear, they made Houston be careful in the back line.
Houston scored its third goal via Eric Alexander in a key moment of the match. After only 1 minute on the second half, the midfielder scored to finish Toronto’s hopes of getting some points in Texas.
Even though, Mitchell Taintor scored for the Canadians at the 52nd minute, the Dynamo sealed the victory just eight minutes after when Albert Elis made the score 4-1. The final 5-1 was scored by the best player of the match Honduran Romell Quioto, who participated in all five goals for the Orange. His performance helped him being named to the MLS Team of the Week.
Next for the Dynamo is a complicated visit to the Minnesota United on April 28th, whereas Toronto traveled to Mexico to faced Guadalajara in the second leg of the CCL, where they will attempt to comeback from a 2-1 deficit.
