Portland Timbers suffered a 3-1 disappointing loss against the New England Revolution in the last preseason match of the Timbers Pre-season Tournament.
The home side started with an aggressive first half, with the Timbers pressuring high and playing a dominating game. It was that high pressure that would produce the first goal of the evening, when New England goal keeper Matt Turner blocked a strike in a one on one with forward Felipe Mora. The deflection would land in Diego Chara’s feet and in New Englands Net.
After the goal, it was New Englands order and speed what would rule the game. Gustavo Bou in the 42nd minute would score the equalizer assisted by Brandon Bye. Six minutes later, and in the first half injury time, Bou would score again from the penalty spot, in a contested penalty on a tackle by Portland’s defender Larry’s Mabiala on New England’s forward Adam Buksa.
In the second hand it was again New England imposed its order and speed with a Portland Timbers that couldn’t find clarity in the reaction. An early goal by Adam Buksa, assisted by Gustavo Bou, in the 51st minute, would end up being the final score of the match.
Portland tried to change things around, bringing Jeremy Ebobisse and Andy Polo, for Yimmi Chara and Cristian Paredes. Later, Dairon Asprilla, would see his chance, sitting Diego Valeri. But the spark didn’t translate in the come back fans were hopping to see.
This was Portland’s last preseason showing before MLS kicks off in March 1st, here at Providence Park, against Minnesota United.
