Call him Don Diego Chara, after joining an exclusive club in becoming all-time MLS fouls committed leader with 759 and counting with three committed after the Portland Timbers played the Houston Dynamo.
The elder Chara made it into this exclusive club during Saturday’s match at PNC Stadium when the defensive midfielder fouled Houston Dynamo FC Matias Vera for foul number 757.
Chara, 36, captured the honor in just 318 matches, averaging 2.38 fouls per game. He passed the previous record-holder Kyle Beckerman who recorded 756 fouls in 498 games (180 more than Diego Chara).
Diego Chara signed with Portland back in 2011 as their first-ever Designated Player and spent every moment of his MLS career with the Rose City side. In his time with the Timbers, he has scored 12 goals and 27 assists in career and was one pivotal piece for Portland’s MLS Cup title run back in 2015.
The man is considered crucial and important in Portland’s lineup and here’s to many more years, congratulations Don Diego for another one of his recent accomplishments.
