Chicago House AC 0-1 Detroit City FC
BRIDGEVIEW, IL—It was an improved performance by Chicago House AC at SeatGeek Stadium, but the same result as Detroit City FC went away 1-0 winners. Detroit City, who brought a significant following with them to Bridgeview on Sunday, remain top of the NISA table while House AC are at the other end after four matches in this Fall Season.
House AC’s attack produced seven shots with six on target. The closest chance being in the 26th minute with Derek Huffman’s shot from close range being saved by Nate Steinwascher. Steinwascher made six saves on the night.
By contrast, Detroit were only able to put two shots on target, but one of them would be from the penalty spot. Michael Kafari tripped up Detroit’s Maxi Rodriguez in the area in the 63rd minute and Rodriguez would then convert the penalty to put the visitors ahead with what turned out to be the only goal.
Despite the loss, House AC head coach CJ Brown saw marked improvement from his side.
“A hundred percent,” said Brown. “I hope the people in the stands tonight felt the same way. The guys played to a T what we were working on in training. We moved the ball around really well. We didn’t get a lot of opportunities on goal, but we are making baby steps to being a better soccer team. And from our performance (against New Amsterdam last week) to now, I saw guys that really wanted to play that were working hard to make that happen. I’m actually happy with a lot of the guys performances.”
As mentioned, quite a few Detroit City FC supporters made the journey to Bridgeview on Sunday night and were vocal throughout the match. But even forward Pato Bottelo-Faz was surprised by the support on the night.
“They always make an impact,” said Bottelo-Faz. “Home games, they’re always there. Whenever we get a late goal, it’s because of the fans. It’s always them just singing and pushing us to do better.
“When we came out today, I had no idea we had today. I knew that there was going to be a few, but I didn’t know it was that many. So when we came out for the game, I was shocked. They keep singing and they never shut up which is great and when it’s an away stadium, it’s even better.
Detroit will continue on the road on Saturday against Chattanooga FC for a 7:30pm ET kickoff while House AC travel to Michigan to take on the Stars on Saturday for a 2:30pm CT kickoff.
