Preview: New York Red Bulls vs Portland Timbers
With a basic session at the Adidas Training Center the Portland Timbers came back to work with high spirits and motivated ahead for their upcoming match against the New York Red Bulls (March 10 4pm PST, MLS Live). This match will not be an easy task for the home side. In his weekly press conference Timbers manager Giovanni Savarese spoke in this week ‘s press conference about the readiness of his group.
Still playing on the road historically has not been of the side from the Rose City’s best traits in recent years. The Timbers had a record of 3-8-4 (wins-losses-draws) last season on the road, earning them only 13 points total away from Providence Park. Their record against the Red Bulls on the road is also a bit worrisome, as they have won just once in four tries at Red Bull Arena (1-2-1, 4 points). Although the Red Bulls are coming off a midweek fixture against Liga MX side Tijuana Xolos, they will be facing off against a young club motivated after their recent international achievement in CCL.
Coming to the match, Red Bulls manager Jesse Marsch for sure will make some moves from his initial eleven. as one thing the Portland Timbers will have to deal with- is one unstoppable squad celebrating its home opener. As the majority of the Portland Timbers starters had a brief session on the field, the majority of last week starters had to be taken to do some gym work. In addition of the non starters with a contested scrimmage in the field after performing their routines. Overall this group looks ready and positive, ahead of their Saturday compromise at the always difficult Red Bulls Arena.
Portland Timbers Injury list: Vytas ( hamstring injury), Jeff Attinella (quad Injury) and Diego Chara (foot) questionable. For Vytas and Jeff Attinella these two are discarded for the New York trip. Diego Chara is also questionable with a right foot injury.
