It’s official, the Portland Timbers have signed Evander Da Silva Ferreira as their target man as an attacking midfielder from Danish Superliga side FC Midtjylland as the club announced on Monday.
He will occupy a spot in the Green and Gold as a Designated Player and with a record club signing of approximately $10 million dollars and is under contract through 2026 with a club option for 2027.
Evander is a 24-year-old midfielder and made an impression with the Boys of the Moor in the Danish Superliga, coming with an impressive CV in his participation with FC Midtjylland in the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
The man from Brazil as many called them Cariocas will be the number 10 player the Rose City side needed to boost its attack as he comes as a leader in assists with five in six matches this season in the Champions League.
“We are thrilled to announce the acquisition and signing of our new Designated Player, Evander,” technical director Ned Grabavoy said in a release. “It was clear from the beginning stages of this process that this was a great opportunity for both Evander and the Portland Timbers.
“He is a player with natural ability, capable of making an impact, and has already proven himself at a good standard. We see him as an integral part of the club’s future and look forward to seeing him in Green and Gold soon.”
Before joining the Wolves of the Danish Superliga, Evander accrued 50 goals and 38 assists in 167 appearances across all competitions. Beginning his career in Brazil with super side Vasco da Gama where he experienced another major tournament Copa Libertadores as a teenager, he formed part of the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup and being a youth international with the national team.
As the Portland Timbers got their man from FC Midtjylland considered a top team in Denmark, for many Major League Soccer scouts this league has become a haven as Nashville SC found when they acquired Hany Mukthar from Brondby, and Philadelphia Union signed striker Mikael Uhre from FC Midtjylland, as both players have become successful in MLS.
Evander will pair in the midfield with Santiago Moreno, Yimmi Chara, and Sebastian Blanco to try to boost the Timbers attack very well looking forward to a successful stint with the Rose City side.
With his former Sports director Svend Graversen being very vocal in expressing about Evander feats with the Wolves and now looking forward to new achievements in his next step of his career. The agreement is a good case for both parties, he says: – Evander has earned this change via his significant performances. It’s a really good case for both parties because we got the price, we think he’s worth, while it’s also an exciting step for Evander to come to MLS.
Before his move to Major League Soccer, Evander won two Danish Cups 2018-19 and 2021-22 and a Danish SuperLiga Cup 2019-2020. In his debut in the Copa Libertadores with Vasco do Gama, on January 31, 2018, he became the youngest player to score twice in this event against Chile’s side Universidad Concepcion.
