You never forget your first time and for the Portland Timbers midfielder David Guzman living his long sought dream. He never imagined seeing it come true with a participation in the grand fete of football. One by representing your home nation and as well-being the first one from your professional team too.

But it is true: David Guzman will be representing Costa Rica at the 2018 World Cup.

This summer the member of La Sele and Rose City defensive midfielder David Guzman will play with the world’s elite.  For the Tico this is somehow unthinkable! Already reunited with La Tricolor, so far he is looking like one of his manager’s first choice in the national team starting initial eleven. In this match he played the match in its entirety.

The weekend with the Costa Rican National Team playing host to North Ireland at San Jose colossus Estadio Nacional became a very valuable piece in the Ticos strategies implemented by his manager. For David Guzman wearing number 20, his hard work and all around efforts of delivering a pristine defensive performance for La Sele, lauded as one of a kind performance all afternoon long.

With a foe not considered as a walk in the park and serious when it’s on the offensive. The Norn Iron were no match for a hardened and inspired Costa Rican team who did not give the Blue and Green Army any liberties in displaying the game that they are most comfortable with.

As the Ticos with the tropical weather that became deterrent to the Boys of the North as many headlines state in many tabloids in the Emerald Isle. The push and the home field advantage became the ideal setting and ingredients to deliver to their followers a win at home.

With a 3-0 rout for the Costa Ricans over the North Ireland National team. Not only had these showed up their levels of confidence but as well their readiness to shine in Russia.

David Guzman and Andy Polo are among the representatives of the Portland Timbers in their respective national teams. Former Timber Rodney Wallace, who made 120 appearances for Portland from 2011-2015, will also represent the Ticas.

as well being among 19 MLS’ers to play in the World Cup. For the Costa Rican national team next friendly will be against Belgium on June 11. This match will be their last preparation, before their WC debut against Serbia on June 17.

In this farewell match for la Sele in Costa Rica’s capital the whole Tricolor delivered a memorable afternoon with  goals from ex Loon and MLSer Johan Venegas 29’, Joel Campbell 46’ and Francisco Calvo 66’. David Guzman recovery in full now is the time to show off his skills and talents to deliver for La Sele.

For Costa Rica playing in a so-called group of death, the Timbers midfielder is to rub elbows with the elite of world soccer. Going against Brazil, Switzerland and Serbia the test is on for the Tricolor. In the case of David Guzman, the Timbers man is ready to shine in the world stage.
