The Houston Dash got an important win against Sky Blue on Sunday night. The Orange scored via Rachel Daly, who found a one-on-one opportunity against the visitor’s goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan, to beat her with a powerful shot to the top corner in the 22’.
The Dash were in control of the match from the first whistle.
Kealia Ohai, Sofia Huerta and Rachel Daly created many chances on offense, but the last touch was missing for a Houston team that lost their last match in Portland. Being strong on defense was something coach Clarkson wanted to see in his team, and sure enough, it was stronger than the offense for the home team. Amber Brooks continues being the leader of the Houston defense in addition to Jane Campbell, who is one of the best goalkeepers in the league.
On the other side Sky Blue tried to maintain long periods of possession and attack Houston via Carli Lloyd. However, the team struggled to do so. Pressure from the Dash got the visitor’s in trouble many times throughout the match, especially at midfield.
Now, Houston will host Reign FC on Friday August 2nd in a key match that can put the winner closer to a playoff spot. On the other side, Sky Blue will have another difficult visit as they will be traveling to Portland to face the Thorns on August 3rd.
