Defender Collin Smith and Revolution II mutually part ways, Joins Rhode Island FC

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution II have mutually agreed to part ways with defender Collin Smith.

Less than one hour later, USL Championship side Rhode Island FC announced that they had signed Collin Smith.

Collin Smith, 20, joined the New England Revolution II on January 9th after being released in the offseason by FC Dallas. The defender registered 106 career appearances (7,080 minutes) where he tallied 6 goals and registered 9 assists. He has previously played for North Texas SC (2020) and spent a season on loan at Birmingham Legion FC (2023).

Just after 2:00p.m. EST on March 29th, the New England Revolution communications department released that the team mutually parted ways with Collin Smith.

Smith made one appearance for the Revolution II, in the MLS NEXT Pro season opener on March 24th versus the Philadelphia Union II.

Smith played all 90 minutes in the match and finished with an 7.4 rating according to Fotmob (second highest amongst Revolution players). Offensively, Collin had 0 goals on 2 shot attempts (50% accuracy). Smith had 91 touches with 8 passes into the final third. This led the defender to go 49/60 (82%) on accurate passes throughout the match with 2/4 accuracy on long balls (50%) and 1/4 (25%) on accurate crosses. He went 2/4 (50%) on successful dribbles and was dispossessed 0 times during the match with 3 chances created. Smith defensively went 1/1 (100%) on tackles won. He had 1 clearance, 1 headed clearance and had 5 recoveries during the match. He went 7/10 (70%) on ground duels and went 3/4 on aerial duels (75%). He was fouled 4 times and committed 1 foul during the match.

Just 51 minutes after parting ways with New England, Rhode Island FC’s communications department announced that the team had signed Collin Smith for the 2024 USL Championship campaign pending league and federation approval.

Collin Smith will be RIFC’s 23rd professional signing in their history.

Head Coach Khano Smith stated, “Collin is a proven player at the USL Championship level… His athleticism, speed, and composure on the ball makes him a great addition to our back line. We’re excited to have him and know that he will be able to contribute immediately.”

This will be Collin Smith’s fifth professional club. He has previously appeared for North Texas SC (2019-22), FC Dallas (2021-2023), featured on loan at Birmingham Legion FC (2023), New England Revolution II (2024) and now Rhode Island FC (2024-Present).
