Cascadia head coach James Nichols was gloomy after his side opened their ConIFA World Cup campaign with a 4-1 loss to Ellan Vannin.
The side, who had never met until yesterday, started brightly but were overwhelmed by an improved second half performance by the group favourites.
“In the first half we were better than we expected. We were dominant. We kept the ball really well. We were patient.”
The bulk of the disappointment was that the half time score did not reflect that dominance and they trailed 2-1.
“We had chance after chance after chance without really making the keeper do a lot.”
After the interval, it was a different matter.
“We never really came out the traps in the second half. I thought we still looked a little bit leggy. On the balance of play, Isle of May probably did deserve to win but I thought 4-1 flattered them.”
“I’m incredibly disappointed at the result but there are so many positives to take out from the performance.”
He has Friday June 1st to assemble those positives and turn them into a winning team.
