Philadelphia flies to Chicago tomorrow to take on the Fire. The match will take place at 5pm EST at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Illinois.
The two teams have an even history, with each side claiming a 5-5-5 record against the other. In the 15 meetings between these two teams, both have scored a total of 19 goals against the other in what looks to be a tight contest.
The last time these two teams met, both were bottom of the table and struggling. Nevertheless the game ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw that kept fans on the edge of their seats for a full 90 minutes. If both teams play the way they did in that draw you can expect another fantastic match.
Philadelphia is coming off a two win streak, claiming a 2-1 win at Columbus and a 3-0 victory in the home opener against New England. The Union will look to continue it’s high paced offense and hopefully snatch a few goals in Chicago. Philadelphia has one clean sheet so far, albeit in a game against a ten man Revolution side.
Philadelphia will have to defend well if they want a good result in
the Windy City. With Blake up as a nominee for Player of the Month in March, the Union will have a solid base in the back, as Blake continues to shine in net.
Chicago have gotten 2 points from the first 3 games and will look to claim it’s first win. The Fire will be without forward David Accam and Goalkeeper Sean Johnson, (who played fantastic the last time these teams met in 2015 despite allowing 3 goals.)
Chicago started the year with an offense heavy performance in a 3-4 loss to NYCFC. Since that result the Fire have been able to shore up the defense and have given up just 1 goal in two games. In theirlast result, the Fire played out to a 0-0 draw while hosting last years Eastern Conference champions Columbus Crew.
Both Chicago and Philadelphia have re-imagined their squads, and both are attempting to stamp their identity on the league. It’s still early in the season but both teams will be looking to claim all 3 points.
For Philadelphia, a win puts them in the drivers seat in the Eastern Conference. For Chicago, a win takes them out of the bottom of the table and would shoot them up, giving Fire fans some firepower as they look to climb up the ladder of a struggling Eastern Conference.
