Charlotte FC suffered a defeat at the hands of the New England Revolution 1-0, New England’s first win of the season.
Charlotte’s early season struggles with finishing were once again present against New England. Charlotte only had seven shots across the entire match with three of those being on goal, generating 1.3 expected goals and ultimately not scoring any. Two prime examples of Charlotte’s finishing struggles happened early in the match, the first was a fifth minute shot from Liel Abada that was saved by the keeper, the second came less than two minutes later when Patrick Agyemang won the ball from the keeper and hit the side of the net with no one between him and the goal.
New England generated a few chances on crosses in the first half, just missing the goal on three of them. New England broke through in the third minute of added time in the first half. Carles Gil laid the ball off to Nacho Gil who had a shot saved by Kristijan Kahlina with the ball going back to Carles Gil who found the ack of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
Charlotte’s struggles finishing appeared again in the second half with another big chance missed by Agyemang sending the ball over the goal with just the keeper to beat in the 63rd minute. Charlotte had one final chance to equalize in added time on a free kick, but Enzo Copetti mistimed his jump to head the ball allowing the keeper to easily collect it.
The 1-0 loss leaves Charlotte with eight points and a 2-3-2 record, putting them at ninth in the Eastern Conference.
Charlotte FC returns home for their next match to take on Toronto FC for the second time this season on Saturday, April 13 at Bank of America Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST and streaming on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
