Chara, Aspirilla Delivered Valuable Win for the Timbers

Diego Chara’s and Dairon Aspirilla’s scores in both halves, were enough for the Portland Timbers to get a valuable win, stopping their three-game losing streak at home in Providence Park.

In a game considered vital, the Timbers needed a win in this match. With several of their conference teams putting pressure over them in their quest to reach fourth place, the win maintains Portland’s grasp of fourth place with 49 points, two over Vancouver, three over the LA Galaxy, and four over Real Salt Lake.

In this match, the Rose City side came ready and played with a lot of enthusiasm and determination against a San Jose Earthquakes side looking at any cost to net a win and continue its hunt for a spot in the playoffs.

Still, I give kudos to San Jose keeper JT Marcinkowski making 10 saves, saving the day, and a possible Timbers rout. Contrary to its Timbers counterpart Steve Clark with 5 saves, he came up with a clean sheet, and to save the day after denying Quakes Chofis what could have been a huge goal. In the end, he came up with a clean sheet.

Once again, the Rose City side delivered its mastery over the Quakes, as the California side hasn’t been able to win at Providence Park since these teams started competing. Tonight’s win for the Timbers we could say was immense!

Going to the Timbers scores, in minute 34 it’s when Diego Chara defending and scoring to opening the score. When a play started by Santiago Moreno and to Felipe Mora passing to Chara for the score. Not even 10 minutes passed of the second half when Marcinkowski spilled the ball and Aspirilla took the opportunity to score not only the insurance goal, but can be the goal of the year with a bicycle kick.

Spectacular and amazing was the play of Dairon Aspirilla having a grand year after he scored his tenth goal of the year. Another man worth mentioning is Santiago Moreno earning his second start of the season and the man is becoming the favorite of Gio after being fundamental in Portland’s attack.

With San Jose having more possession in the game, opposite to the Timbers outshooting them and earning what is considered a valuable win that returns this club overall confidence back. Their next match will be on the road on Wednesday, November 3rd against a renewed Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium.
