Cascadia 1 : 3 Karpatalya

Cascadia were eliminated from the ConIFA Cup after losing 1-3 to Karpatlya tonight. The ethnic Hungarian side from Western Ukraine were the strongest opponent Cascadia has faced and dominated the opening exchanges.

However, having survived that, Cascadia had the better of the first half and Patrick Wilson hit the goalkeeper in the 38th minute in the first half’s only shot on target.

All four goals came inn a second half which Karpatalya began more prominently. Five minutes in, they took the lead. Will Marment could only parry a swerving drive and Gorgy Toma reached the rebound first.

Cascadia then had their best spell and spurned several chances to equalise. Max Oldham snapped at a good chance on a Jordan Wilson through ball in 56 minutes when he was clean through. One minute later, Jon Nouble volleyed wide from close in after a poor palm out from the keeper.

It was to prove the turning point. Three minutes later, some wizardry by Janos Farkas who waltzed past several men created both space and chaos before Roland Takacs eventually scrambled the ball home.

It was nearly 3-0 following a speculative drive from Alex Svedjuk. Anthony Wright replaced the tiring Hector Morales before a great save by Marment was required to keep Cascadia in the match.

Calum Ferguson replaced Nouble and just like the last game, a score quickly followed when Kitsap’s Hamza Haddadi equalised with ten minutes to go.

Any chance of a come back though was smashed when Gajdos went down under minimal pressure from Joey Censoni and converted the penalty to double the lead.

The introduction of Keaton Levock for Josh Doughty briefly raised the tempo but it was too late despite a series of late fouls that brought a yellow card for Svedjuk and a flurry of free kicks for Cascadia.
