Seattle Sounders 1-Vancouver Whitecaps 0

In his three years with the Sounders Kelvin Leerdam has had his fair share of incredible moments. On Saturday night at the Link he added another, scoring in the last seconds to give Seattle the 1-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.

With multiple players off on international duty the Sounders had to dig deep into their depth charts to fill their 18. It ended up being to their advantage as Homegrown Academy product Daniel Leyva made his first ever start and Justin Dhillon came off of the bench. Leyva nearly had the games first goal. However, the goal was called back after it was determined that Whitecaps goalkeeper Zac MacMath was fouled.

MacMath faced a barrage of shots from the Sounders and was for the most part spotless, making seven saves. However, he could not make the final save with Leerdam finishing off a Brad Smith pass at the top of the box to give Seattle the three points late.

For Vancouver (4-7-8, 20 points) the loss could not come at a worse time. Although they have claimed at least a point in each of their last five games they are about embark on a seven game stretch in the month of July.

As for Seattle (8-4-5, 29 points) the result snaps a five game winless and gives the club a much-needed boost, especially considering they were short-handed. They will travel to New York in the midweek to face City FC (July 3, 7PM EST, ESPN+).
