The Cardiac Crew, or Columbus Crew, went away from home and headed to the Northeast region of the United States to take on the New England Revolution. A game in which could see the Crew get their first road win of the season and third positive result in a row, Columbus would see the match begin with a slight hiccup as the Black & Gold claimed a 2-2 draw.
Cardiac Crew claims draw against New England Revolution
Defender Marlon Hairston, who was slated to start, picked up an injury during warm-ups. This would force Hairston out, and have Caleb Porter bring in Yaw Yeboah, shifting Derrick Etienne Jr to the vacant fullback spot.
“He said he had a tight hamstring, said he couldn’t go,” head coach Caleb Porter spoke.
“That’s rarely happened. I’ve not had that happened; Actually I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen with any team I’ve had.”
With Columbus feeling the game a little bit with a new adjustment, the Revolution controlled the game, forcing pressure on the makeshift defense and the midfield trio of the Crew.
It wasn’t until the 27th minute when the visitors found the back of the net through Miguel Berry, when he back heeled a low pass from Etienne Jr past Revolution keeper Matt Turner.

Breaking out of the second half, Porter brought in Lucas Zelarayan to add another lethal attacking piece to the mix in hopes to secure a second goal.
New England, on the other hand, continued to press Columbus and force them into their own defensive half in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Continuously losing possession, Columbus found it difficult to break the Revolution midfield in transition opportunities.
Head coach Bruce Arena would match Columbus’ Zelarayan by bringing on Jozy Altidore and former Crew player Emannuel Boateng midway through the second half.

That would pay off in the home sides favor as Boateng found Dejuan Jones in the 70th minute to equalize the game at 1-1.

Just ten minutes later, the home side took the lead when Sebastian Lletget found Adam Buksa in the penalty area for a glancing header past Eloy Room.

Done but not yet out, the Crew found a late equalizer in the waning moments of the match when Etienne Jr found super sub Erik Hurtado at the edge of the six-yard box to slot home the game-tying goal, which would prove valuable as Columbus drew 2-2 on the road.

Columbus are on the road again taking on New York City FC next weekend.
