Vancouver Whitecaps 1- Portland Timbers 0

Coming to BC Place this Friday night the Portland Timbers were riding on a three game winning streak and looking forward to extend their winning ways.

On this first round between these squads in one of the leagues most celebrated of rivalries.

The Cascadia Derby, considered one of the most contested of match-ups whenever these two squads meet.

This Friday night, the Timbers saw reality against a very defensive Vancouver Whitecaps.

Still for today’s result for the Portland Timbers, became a disappointing one due to the great game these displayed and the number of opportunities to score these had all game long.

With an amazing performance by Marc Dos Santos Caps these with just a single goal scored early in the 9th minute via a pass from Russell Teibert.

By beating the likes of Larry’s Mabiala and goalkeeper Steve Clark, after a clearance error done by Jorge Moreira.

Give round one in the Cascadia Derby to these suddenly hardened Vancouver Whitecaps.

In spite of  the Portland Timbers tries and overall of 27 shoots at goal and five on target, still these could not overcome the heroics of Caps keeper Maxime Crepeau making five saves.

As the efforts of Jeremy Ebobisse, Diego Valeri, Sebastian Blanco, Larrys Mabiala and Bill Tuiloma to mention a few, came short thanks to Caps goalkeeper opportune interventions.

This match expose for both sides its defensive might and with a high degree of physicality from both sides, after the game first goal, defense became the utmost of highlights.

As the Whitecpas defensive backfield did not allowed the Timbers any liberties in the game these are comfortbale with as well not leaving any open spaces so the visitors to score a single goal.

To conclude the Portland Timber are to get ready for a midweek affair against a renewed and hardened Houston Dynamo in BBVA Compass Stadium.
