Wednesday, August 4, 2021, 7:30 PM PST/ 10:30 PM EST
Providence Park, Portland, Oregon
Portland Timbers Briefly
The need to get a win is a must for the Portland Timbers after back-to-back losses on their road stand and now looking forward to continuing its dominance over the San Jose Earthquakes.
A win on Wednesday against a team they have an upper edge and with some troubles but coming from a meritorious win over first place Sounders, is something for the Timbers not to take for granted.
As the team lately is showing a lack of passion and motivation, maybe coming back to Providence Park and in front of its fan base can uplift its spirits and deliver. What kind of moves will Gio make for his eleven and what formation will he be using to stop the Silicon Side momentum cold?
Will Gio find vindication for his side on midweek for his Timbers? A win on Wednesday night will be immense as well uplifting for this team’s spirits as August is seen as a crucial month for many teams.
One thing these Timbers need to find its game and look forward to getting back in the win column.
Probable Lineup:
GK Steve Clark, Pablo Bonilla, Larry’s Mabiala, Dario Zuparic, Josecarlos Van Rankin; Diego Chara, Cristhian Paredes; Yimmy Chara, Diego Valeri, Jeremy Ebobisse; Felipe Mora
San Jose Earthquakes Briefly
For manager Matias Almeyda, last Saturday’s win over the Seattle Sounders, was seen as a huge upset on the road against the league’s top team in 2021 and normally invincible at home.
A season with a lot of lows and not so many highs, the Quakes were filled with controversies after the firing of its GM. Yet somehow, this negativity is behind and now it is time to get serious as the Quakes are looking again to start getting their rhythm with wins and move up the postseason spots.
So far, the Quakes are seeded in eleventh place tied on seventeen points tied with FC Dallas. For manager Almeyda, he believes firmly in his side that can deliver another win on the road against an embattled Portland Timbers.
A win on Wednesday night in Providence Park not only will shake off the dominance the Rose City team has put on the Silicon Valley side, to conclude streaks are meant to be broken.
Probable Lineup:
GK JT Marcinkowski, Nathan, Oswaldo Alanis, Tanner Beason; Luciano Abecasis, Judson, Florina Jungwirth, Shea Salinas; Cristian Espinoza, Javier Lopez, Cade Cowell
