Bundesliga round up & player of the week

More Munich frustrations, Leipzig continue their run, and another coaching  casualty in the Bundesliga round up.

Bayern Munich can claim that they are still undefeated in the Bundesliga but after a 1-1 draw against Hoffenheim fans are starting to wonder where the drive is.

TSG took the lead as a counter attack led to a brilliant goal by Kerem Demirbay.  This put the hosts on the back foot but a wrong step by Steven Zuber put in a Douglas Costa cross and the match went to 1-1. While Hoffenheim will gladly accept taking points off of the champions, it is a question of how Munich responds after the international break that will tell if they have the stomach for this fight.

RB Leipzig benefited from a tired Mainz 05 side that had mid week Europa League action, and it seemed to be nothing more than the Eastern club wanted as they cruised to a 3-1 win and find themselves only behind Munich on goal difference.

Timo Warner’s first half brace on either side of the half and a goal from Emil Forsberg meant that by the time Stephan Bell had gotten a goal back for Mainz the match was well out of hand. RB has been anything but brilliant and playing without a fear of failure seems to be doing themselves a world of good. When the international break is over a match between the top two will be a tasty venture.

Eintracht Frankfurt was welcoming a FC Koln side that was on a good run of form with the leagues top goal scorer in Anthony Modeste. The match went against the Billy Goats early as Eintracht secured a win 1-0 at the Commerzbank-Arena.

American Timothy Chandler showed why he is back in the USMNT fold as he sent in a cross that found Mijat Gacinovic for the lone goal of the match. Frankfurt’s other CONCACAF star Marco Fabian was all over the pitch for the Eagles as he won 17 duels, the most of any player on the pitch. For the result there was little doubt all match and FC Koln can only think that being tied on points for fifth with Borussia Dortmund and now Frankfurt is a nice tussle for the European places.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored four goals in less than 50 minutes as BVB ran riot on HSV, 5-2 and still no victory for the Hamburg side after 10 matches.

Hertha Berlin continued Borussia Monchengladbach’s road woes as they dispatched the Foals 3-0 to place the capital club only behind third place Hoffenheim in goal difference.

Bayer Leverkusen continued a nice vein of form as they defeated Darmstadt 3-2 at the Bay Arena. The winning goal from Charles Aranguiz was of particular note in the victory.

Wolfsburg, still without a new manager, looked to show a bit of what they are capable of as they defeated SC Freiburg 3-0 in the south of Germany.

Markus Kauczinski was only given 10 Bundesliga matches to prove himself but after just two points earned and a 2-0 loss to Bavarian rivals FC Augsburg the board of FC Ingolstadt felt the time for a change was now.

Schalke continued their response to a dreadful start to the year as they dispatched Werder Bremen with ease 3-1. If the slow start had not occurred perhaps talk of Europe would surround the Royal Blues.

Player of the week

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang-got in trouble by going to Milan without leave but he returned to score four goals against HSV and now sits tied with Anthony Modeste for top scorer with 11 goals on the season
