When the rest of the world is looking at one football in Minneapolis, Minnesota the Bundesliga was lighting the field a fire in this review of matchday 21.

Friday was the opening of a massive weekend of Bundesliga action. Borussia Dortmund new signing Michy Batshuayi was on form finding the back of the net twice as BVB took the lead in Koln three times in a 3-2 thriller. It should be also mentioned one was called back via VAR as well.

Credit needs to go to both sides as relegation threatened FC Koln drew level on multiple occasions in a match where they were second best. Despite the result each team and not one will take solace as each don’t play midweek in the Pokal.

Werder Bremen vs Schalke traditionally is a big match between two title chasing teams. It has been a long time since Bremen was playing for the league title while Schalke has been up and down of late. Schalke looked a lock to win. That being said in a wild match Werder Bremen came out winners.

Yevhen Konoplyanka long effort earned the Royal Blues the first half lead going through the keepers hands but the craziness of the second turned it on its head. 04 keeper Ralf Fahrmann dropped a free kick and Max Kruse was there to equalize for the northerners. With American Aron Johannsson on his 94th minute ball to Max Eggestein, Fahrmann cleaned him out in a penalty shout but Zlatko Junuzovic was there to put it away. Crazy end to a crazy match.

In a German league like the Bundesliga it is a strange moment when the exciting talent is young and English. That’s the difference maker for RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach. Debutant loanee Ademola Lookman scoring the lone goal in a 1-0 Leipzig win.

Elsewhere in the Bundesliga

Eintracht Frankfurt was blitzed by FC Augsburg in a match of European chasers. The Bavarian’s coming away with a 3-0 victory to go seventh in the table.

Bayern Munich was pressed all match by Mainz but a 2-0 victory came their way as each enter midweek Pokal quarterfinal matches.

The Tayfun Korkut era at Stuttgart started off well as the Swabian’s came from behind for a 1-1 draw with Wolfsburg, the opposition who sent them two seasons ago down to the second division.

HSV looked to be falling to Hannover 96 until late Filip Kostic found an equalizer. 1-1 for a share of the spoils and still the only continuous Bundesliga club is not without belief of surviving this relegation fight.

Bayer Leverkusen played SC Freiburg to a 0-0 in a match that will benefit Freiburg better than Leverkusen.

Hoffenheim took a late first half lead but Hertha Berlin got one back for a 1-1 draw.

Prost Amerika Bundesliga POTW

Nobody but Michy Batshuayi for this. Two goals, one called back this debut could not have gone down any better
