With the international break up Bundesliga squads all are looking to solidify their current positions, some will be looking to move up. Lets look at whats going on and this weekend’s matches in Matchday 6.
Bundesliga Clubs in Europe
Six clubs were in European action with a different set of results in the Champions League and Europa League.
Borussia Monchengladbach signed manager Andre Schubert to a contract until 2019 as they hosted five time European Champion FC Barcelona at Borussia Park. The Foals took the lead by Thorgan Hazard in the first half but a late comeback meant that the Spanish giant came away with all three points, 2-1.
Bayern Munich was looking to put away the demons against Atletico Madrid but it was for naught as the Madrid club claimed a 1-0 win and put an end to the perfect start under Carlo Ancelotti.
Borussia Dortmund played host to reigning European Champions Real Madrid in a top match for the group phase and the fans were not disappointed as American Christian Pulisic assisted Andre Schurrle in a late equalizer that highlighted an exciting 2-2 draw.
Bayer Leverkusen will feel hard done by as Polish international Kamil Glik scored a long range goal that nullified the Chicharito goal earlier in the second half that meant that there would be a sharing of the points against AS Monaco, 1-1 in the Principality.
In Europa League action Mainz 05 won out in a road goal fest 3-2 over Azerbaijani side Gabala in the former Soviet territory. Schalke 04, despite their woeful league start, won in front of home fans against Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg 3-1.
RB Leipzig Call for Bans after FC Koln Fan Protest
RB Leipzig match at FC Koln was delayed as there was a sit in by the Billy Goat fans which didn’t allow for the bus to enter the stadium.
Now the RB Leipzig board are calling for those involved in the protest last weekend to receive stadium bans.
While the match was only delayed 15 minutes this is another protest that has garnered public attention that has involved RB Leipzig.
With more protests more than likely the board at RB Leipzig are looking to avoid further displays like this going forward.
In describing the Koln fans Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff stated that ‘The anarchists need to receive stadium bans.’
Going forward there looks to be more protests but with the DFB making investigations there is only a chance that there will be more to come in terms of both protests and sanctions.
