Bayern show that Leipzig are no match, Borussia Dortmund fall at 96, and is another coach to be fired? All this and more in the Bundesliga round-up.
Bayern Munich is…well, looking like vintage Bayern. Fact is they did not need to be at 100% functionality. Winning in the DFB Pokal midweek in round 1 was good but 2-0 in the league is better. Leipzig shooting themselves in the foot with a first half red card changed things and the match never looked back. The king has returned with a vengeance.
Borussia Dortmund has been on a soul-searching journey. They’ve dropped points here and there and in Hannover 4-2 and they didn’t look good. Take away the injuries to nearly the entire defense and maybe this would not be so bad. But it is. Hannover brought BVB to their level and spanked them.96 is now in fourth and this after getting promoted.
Hoffenheim has been in the running for European places but against Borussia Monchengladbach they hit a big of a snag. Going up 1-0 in the first half things seemed good. BMG then unleashed the same beat down they experienced last week. Those in Sinsheim will be scratching their head when they could’ve caught up with the top of the league.
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga
Werder Bremen was in win or fire the manager mode playing FC Augsburg. 3-0 for the Bavarian visitors and Alexander Nori is looking to be leaving after a start that sees the former champion in the relegation zone.
In the Rhine-Main derby Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz 05 shared the spoils. 1-1 and each side will consider that they should have earned all three points.
Hertha Berlin has been dealing with difficult times. Playing in Europe has not been easy. A loss to Bremen in the -Pokal was followed with a 2-1 victory over HSV.
FC Koln looked to be turning a possible corner after their shock Pokal win midweek. Sadly against local rivals Bayer Leverkusen a 2-1 loss ensures that they continue to stay rock bottom.
Schalke 04 and fans were thinking that a 1-0 win was in the bag. A very late equalizer for Wolfsburg means they continue to keep relegation threats at bay.
Stuttgart has maintained excellent home form to ensure that they are not worrying about relegation. With a 3-0 win over Freiburg they keep themselves fixed in a strong mid table position.
Prost’s Bundesliga Player of the Week
Ihlas Bebou and his brace for Hannover 96 was a major tipping balance in their 4-2 win over BVB. This victory for the Lower Saxony club is a major moment in this, their first season back in the Bundesliga.
