The New England Revolution would face off against FC Dallas in their 2022 home opener. Gillette Stadium was filled with excitement as the 2021 Supporter’ Shield winners took the field in Foxborough for the first time this season.
The Revolution were able to come out on top, winning the game 1-0, and bring head coach Bruce Arena to his 241st regular season win. A win that surpassed the previous MLS record of 240 held by Sigi Schmid.
Revolution goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. was called upon early in the match, but was up to the challenge, turning aside the line Dallas shot on target.
It took until stoppage time in the first half for either side to break through. Revolution Captain, Carles Gil, found himself at the top of the box where he was clipped down by Paxton Pomykal of FC Dallas. A non-call was reversed by VAR, awarding a penalty shot to New England. Gil stepped up and hit a no-doubter with his left foot, giving the Revs the 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Revolution would create a number of chances in the second half, but were unable to find a second goal in this match.
Holding on to a 1-0 lead, the Revolution move to 4 points on the season. Up next is a weekend matchup in the Concacaf Champions League semi-finals where the Revs host Pumas UNAM of Mexico.
