It is not the Neymar’s team, or Marta’s for that matter, Sunday’s game against Jamaica showed Brazil – this is Cristiane’s team.
It was not a surprise that Brazil won its first game in the competition, they haven’t lost a game opener in a World Cup since 1991. While Marta recovers from an injury, Cristiane #11 and Andressa #9 took on the responsibility to show the young team from Jamaica that these girls know how to play ball better than the guys.
With an offensive game, the team scored in the first 15 minutes with a goal from Cristiane, who would score twice more with the assistance of Andressa.  Andressa had the opportunity to put her own goal on the scoreboard but Jamaican goalie, Schneider, made the save.

Jamaica’s defense tried, but as the young captain, Konya Plummer learned it is not easy to stop the Brazilian attack.

The victory gave the team its first three points in the competition ahead of Italy (also with three points) and Jamaica (without points). It also helped encourage a team that hasn’t won a game in nine matches; their last win coming in July 2018.

Brazil is aiming to surpass their best finish since they lost the title to Germany (it always seems to be Germany) in 2007.

Brazil’s next match will be on Thursday at 12 pm EST, against Australia (who comes from a 2-1 loss against Italy).

Marta will probably start that game since she practiced normally with the team yesterday.

Fun Fact: Sao Paulo, the biggest city in Brazil gave a half day off so people can watch the games.
