It was mostly one-way traffic and in the direction of the goal of Soslan Dzhanayev as Bayern Munich ran out 5-0 winners over FC Rostov in their opening UEFA Champions League match. It is a record 13th successive home win in the Champions League for Bayern as well as their 13th straight opening match win.
Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 28 minutes after begin pushed down in the box by Aleksander Gatskan. Just before halftime, Thomas Müller celebrated his 27th birthday with a goal as he netted in a cross from David Alaba.
The second half was the Joshua Kimmich show as he would get his first two Champions League goals for Bayern. The first came from a low cross from Douglas Costa 53rd minute and then the second came from a cross from Juan Bernat at the hour mark. Bernat turned goal-scorer with one of his own in the 90th minute to complete Rostov’s humbling.
The only downer was Mats Hummels having to leave the match early after getting kicked in the mouth going for a corner kick.
It’s back to the Bundesliga on Saturday when Bayern take on FC Ingolstadt at 8:30am CT on Fox Sports 1.
