ATL UTD 2 uses a late equalizer to draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies
ATL UTD 2 broke a four match winless streak with a 1-1 draw with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in front of 1,269 at Coolray Field on a mid-week match-up. Atlanta came out handled a very aggressive Tampa Bay team desperate for points seeking to make the playoffs.
The Rowdies had 23 shots to ATL UTD 2’s only 12 shots however ATL UTD 2 was able to play solid defense and goalkeeper Paul Christensen made five saves to keep the match close. The biggest of the night came in the 61st minute when the Rowdies’ Dominic Oduro intercepted a pass in the midfield and made the run to the box. Christensen came off his line to deny Oduro’s shot with his left hand.
ATL UTD 2 defender AJ Cochran spoke to the gritty performance, “It was a fight, we kept it at zeroes for longer than we did in previous games. Obviously, we gave up that goal, but then to bring one back and tie a team like Tampa is something to build off going into the last three games for sure.”
