Atlanta United are downed by an energized New York Red Bulls

Atlanta United are thoroughly man-handled by an energized New York Red Bull squad. New York came out from the opening whistle and challenged every pass and played their style of high press to perfection. Atlanta never looked comfortable and struggled to mount much of a threat.

The match may have played out differently had the early chance on counter by Miguel Almirón had gone in, however New York goalkeeper Luis Robles came up big for the save. As the first half wore on, New York continued to press and finally broke through on a penalty when Chris McCann was called for handling the ball in the box.

Atlanta had nine shots but could only mustered two of those shots on goal. They were flustered all match by the press and ended up with a terrible 75% passing accuracy.

Atlanta was fortunate the score was not worse. Eric Remedi was called for a hand ball in the box late in the second half. Atlanta keeper Brad Guzan was able to block the PK to keep the score 2-0.
