Atlanta United drop a heartbreaker to FC Dallas 3-2 at Toyota Stadium allowing two goals in the final minutes. What looked to be a solid performance all around fell apart in the final five minutes. Josef Martínez scoring twice pushing his league-leading goal total to 17. The loss snaps Atlanta’s seven-game road unbeaten streak and now Texas is the only place Atlanta has lost on the road.

Atlanta Head Coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino after the match spoke to the disappointment of letting the game slip away, “These kinds of losses hurt. They hurt the most when you don’t deserve to lose. When the opponents are better than you, it’s a different kind of feeling because you know that team outplayed you. You are able to accept that loss more even though it still hurts you.. In our case, we did everything we could to win but ended up leaving empty handed.”

Personnel Details

Julian Gressel was clear after the match on the lesson learned, “The lesson is that you can’t give away a game like that. We didn’t reward ourselves because we played a good game and came back from a goal down on a set piece, which happens. We fight back in a tough environment, then to give it away…that just can’t happen. That’s the lesson.” He had another solid performance filling in the for the injured Darlington Nagbe, but was clearly disappointed in the team result.
