Atlanta Capitalize on Coronel Spill

ATLANTA, GA–Atlanta United returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over New York Red Bulls on Saturday. The game’s lone goal came in the seventh minute as Carlos Coronel spilled an initial shot by Thiago Almada and Giorgos Giakoumakis pounced on the rebound. From there, it would take what coach Gonzalo Pineda called “a mature performance” to hold on to the win after last week’s 6-1 thrashing by Columbus. Red Bulls would have 1 shots on the day, but just two on target saved by Brad Guzan in a match that featured ten yellow cards.

The Five Stripes move to within one point of Eastern leaders FC Cincinnati while Red Bulls slipped to 12th in the East table and now 0-2-2 away from Red Bulls Arena.
