Eric Miller became the game hero as well scoring his first goal of his 11 years as a player in Major League Soccer and rallying to draw after Sporting Kansas City staged another second half meltdown at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
Again, the Portland Timbers staged another sloppy first half and allowing SKC to score early in the 13th minute through Willy Agada who delivered a one of a kind performance and a brace. Danny Rosero added another goal in the 38th minute as well Agada scoring in stopagge time, in the second half and missing a penalty in the second half.
SKC were cruising to what seemed to be and easy win and complete the game, after going with a commanding 3-0 lead going into halftime.
We believe that this moment became the focal one for the Timbers for staging an epic comeback over a clueless SKC fading away from its brilliant game it had on the first half.
With a few moves made by manager Phil Neville starting the second half, bringing Felipe Mora for Santiago Moreno as well ad in defense of bringing Claudio Bravo for David Mosquera in the 46th minute. Then came another move when he substituted Diego Chara in 54th minute for David Ayala.
These moves really made a difference and with another revival in the second half for the Portland Timbers (2-3-2, 8 points) as they shared the spoils in Kansas City, taking advantage of another meltdown at home by Peter Vermes’s SKC (2- 1,-4, 10 points).
When everything looked lost for the visiting Timbers, a ray of hope shined on the horizon, when Felipe Mora was knocked inside the box by SKC’s Tim Leobold, setting up the stage for Evander to score his third goal of the season via a penalty.
Two minutes later, Jonathan Rodriguez fed a nice pass to Felipe Mora just pushing the ball inside the box to put the game within one goal as Mora scored his second of the season in the 66th minute to put the score 2-1.
By setting the stage in the 80th minute, Cristhian Paredes’s header was blocked by Tim Melia, setting up the play for Eric Miller to score the equalizer to tie the game at 3-3 and despite the stopagge time of 10 minutes.
In the end, no one scored the go-ahead goal in the end to give their team the win, now next week the Portland Timbers return home to face off a momentum driven LAFC side coming with a huge win in El Trafico over their cross town rival LA Galaxy.
