Pretty standard lineups for both teams walk onto the field for the first Seattle v Portland darby of the year. The two notable switches were Zach Scott on for Chad Marshall and Maximillio Urruti instead of Fernando Adi.

The opening minutes were dominated by Seattle. They saw the majority of the ball and had the best chance, which came in the 10th minute when Obafemi Martins bodied his way onto a Lamar Neagle cross. The ensuing shot went just wide.

About the 30th minute Portland was the one in control. It took great efforts by Brad Evans, and Marco Pappa to keep the Timbers off the board.

At the very end of stoppage time Lamar Neagle took a shot at the corner of the box that Kwarasey did well to push out.

The second half started much the same way but Seattle picked it up in the around the 55th minute. However they couldn’t find that final touch and didn’t capitalize on their chances.

A good spell of possession for the Timbers culminates in a great shot from Urruti off of an even better chip pass from Darlington Nagbe. Unfortunately for them and Timbers fans everywhere, it  just a bid offsides. After that the substitutes started to come on.

Andy Rose comes on in 76th minute and changes everything a minute later , when his six yard shot catches Kwarsarey by surprise. The keeper never quite got ahold of it and Dempsey taps it over the line for the only goal of the night.

The goal sparked something in both teams as they came alive chasing after a second. Fenando Adi looked particularly threatening at times in his short shift as a substitute.

A couple of great chances for Portland come up short and Seattle closes out the game thanks to some great saves by Stefan Frei.

Although very frantic at times, Seattle won and kept their recent string of success going against the Timbers
