Atlanta United Academy star forward Jackson Conway signed his first professional contract with Atlanta United 2. Conway is the third player from the Atlanta United Academy to sign with the USL Championship squad, and the eighth overall to sign a professional contract.

“We are pleased to bring Jackson to the next step of his career. Being from our Academy, we know him well and know that this is a great step for him and for the club. Tony and our Academy coaches have done a great job preparing Jackson, and we are excited to see his progress as a professional.”

ATL UTD 2 head coach Scott Donnelly.

The seventeen year-old has spent the last two seasons in the Academy where he scored 43 goals and was a part of the U-16 side which won the U.S. Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) National Championship in 2017. Conway made 11 appearances and four starts for ATL UTD 2 last season and made his professional debut in a start against Charleston Battery on April 24.

“He’s getting one or two good chances a game. For any striker, they want to score so badly, that when things don’t fall their way, they maybe start to tighten a bit. He’s so desperate to score and help the team, that he’s putting pressure on himself. That’s ok to do. He wants to score goals, he’s a goal scorer. He feels that responsibility, so it’s ok that he’s a little frustrated. That frustration will only spur him on to score those goals in the months and years to come. Pittsburgh is the best defensive team in the league, so he was dealing with experienced, veteran defenders on his back. I thought he gave as good as he got, and nearly got the finishing touch on his one big opportunity tonight.”

Coach Donnelly remarked about Conway’s effort and progress after his fourth start in October 2018.
