New Inter Miami head coach Diego Alonso will bring an uncompromising style to South Florida.
Alonso was introduced to the media last week ahead of the start of pre-season, and he opened up on the style of play he wants to implement. The Uruguayan built a Monterrey side that thrived on intensity last year, and it seems it will be no different at Inter, as long as his new players buy in.
“I talked to the players about how I feel about soccer,” said Alonso. “I understand soccer as a game in which you have to create chances all the time in order to win.
“I don’t think of it as a game of giving an answer, I understand it as a proposal, always propose to do more.
“It is certainly an idea that is mine in principle, but we have to share with the whole team.
“And it’s not an imposition, it’s convincing all players that we have to play the same way. We need to be a team that both attacks and a team that defends to be much better.”
Alonso also opened up on his thorough knowledge of MLS, a league he claims to know inside-out, despite Inter being his first real taste of US Soccer.
“I know practically everything, the only thing left is how to play in the MLS,” he added.
“I have had the possibility to play in Concacaf against several teams, to play friendlies against several MLS teams, and the fan and stadium experience I have always thought is wonderful.
