A Letter from the New Editor

0

Greetings,

This is Dan Gaichas and I will be the editor for Prost Amerika for the 2020 season. I am honored to succeed Sean Maslin in this endeavor and I will help keep Prost Amerika running well and continue to be an independent voice of soccer news in North America.

I have been covering soccer in Chicago for 15 years (I’ll gladly accept some empathy cocoa) and have been the beat reporter for both the Fire and Red Stars. I started out with The Fire Alarm which was part of matchnight.com from 2004 to 2007. My first match report was an indoor soccer match between the Milwaukee Wave and Chicago Storm at what is now called UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena in 2004 (a 9-8 win for the Storm in extra time). In 2007, myself and John Schulz launched Windy City Soccer and I was the editor and webmaster of the site built off iWeb for ten years. I have been a contributor to Prost Amerika since the 2016 season and I have assisted with the editorial staff for both Prost Amerika and sister site Prost International.

I will be assisted by Emmett McConnell who is an associate producer at Sirius XM FC (channel 157) and specializes in tactical breakdowns while I specialize in statistics and Oxford commas. We will announce tech support for our website at a later date.

We are Prost are an all-volunteer staff who write for the love of the game. However, Prost Amerika Soccer is also crowdsourced entity. Donations from supporters like you help keep this site running and up to date. We appreciate donations to help us with maintenance of the site and to continue our coverage of North American Soccer.

One may also contribute by joining our staff. We are looking for writers to cover the MLS beat in Colorado, Kansas City, San Jose, Cincinnati, Minnesota, New England, Salt Lake, Columbus, Montreal, Orlando, and Nashville. Additionally, we are also looking for contributors for our NWSL beats in Salt Lake and in New Jersey with Sky Blue FC. If you are in a USL market or even a Major Arena Soccer League market and like to contribute, we would like to have you as well. Please send a writing sample to me at windycitysoccer@mac.com and we can go from there.

Soccer’s season truly never ends and we here at Prost will be there to cover the beautiful game with an independent point of view and with professionalism not seen in the development of the proposed new Chicago Fire logo (Really, Nelson Rodriguez and Kyle Sheldon??). The best season is always the next one, and that will be starting very soon with the arrival of the NWSL College Draft in Baltimore as well as the MLS SuperDraft. And again, I welcome some empathy cocoa.

I’m not only the editor who needs some empathy cocoa, I’m also a Brony. (Image: Hasbro)

Sincerely,

Dan Gaichas
