1st Half
In a pulsating encounter the Seattle Sounders defeated Chivas de Guadalajara 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions league quarterfinal. The game started brightly for Chivas with the bulk of the early chances. the Sounders found their legs quickly and the teams traded chances. Chivas came close to scoring as Alejandro Mayorga had a blister shot from which frei saved then bobbled and punched out or a corner. Will Bruin taking a feed from Francis comes close. Roman ores picks up the first yellow of the game in the 17th with a foul in the offensive half. Clint Dempsey comes close in the 27th minute with the Sounders creatinf the best chances in the first half hour.
Chivas comes close to opening the scoring with Alan Pulidio coming close after Roman Torres slips and Pulidio goes in alone on Frei. He tries to chip Frei who makes him self big and saves it withe his face. The teams continue to trade chances with Will Bruin coming close after another pass from Francis. Cota saves for a corner. Francis’s speed on the wings giving Chivas fits. Cota gets a yellow for dissent in the 42 minute.
2nd half
Chivas is late coming out of the locker room to start the second half. The game picks up with the both teams wanting to pay football. Clint comes close in the 46th minute. After a corner in the 47th Roman Torres comes close with his shot going over the bar. After a Chivas corner in the 48th Mayorga and Pulidio both have shots blocked. Bwana goes down after contact in the box. The referee was not interested in calling a penalty. The Referee has had a excellent game at this point letting the game flow. Chivas make their first sub in the 56th with Pizarro coming on for Brizulea. Sounders are pressing for a goal. With the bulk of possession Wingo comes on for Bwana in the 73rd minute great outing for the Sounders homegrown. Not overawed by the occasion and had a great game. Dempsey shoots over the bar and misses a golden chance in the 75th minute. Pulidio with a shot blocked in the 76th. The game was very open as both teams are pushing for the go ahead goal. In the 78th of a great pas from Henry Wingo Clint Dempsey beats Cota low to the corner and the Sounders take the lead.
Chivas push for the tying goal. the Sounders hold their nerve and take the first leg 1-0.
