Houston Dynamo finally won a match after over 100 days. The Orange made a statement on Saturday night against league newcomers and state rival Austin FC. The 3-0 win gives Houston some breathing room after not getting the results they wanted.
The match was controlled mostly by the away side. The Verdes had good results against Houston, but they knew Dynamo had a lot of pressure, especially from their fans to get a win. So, Austin wanted to take advantage of the mental aspect of the game.
The possession of the ball and the creation of chances in offense came in from Austin. However, Houston this time was on point and finally took advantage of the chances they created in offense to score goals and win this match. In addition, there is a special mention to the great job that goalkeeper Michael Nelson did on Saturday night. He got his first MLS career clean sheet, helping his side to get three important points.
The match started great for the home team as they scored very early on the match. Griffin Dorsey found a ball inside the box to beat Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver for the 1-0 before the 1-minute mark. The 2-0 came in at the 24’ as ‘Fafa’ Picault took advantage of a long pass by defender Hadebe and scored his first one of the night.
‘Fafa’ scored his second of the night at the 64th minute to give a clear victory to a Dynamo team that really needed to prove to its home crowd that they want to fight and get wins the remaining of the season.
After the win, Houston will make a trip to Los Angeles to face the Galaxy. On the other side, Austin will host LAFC. Both matches on Wednesday, September 15th.
