Eintracht Frankfurt 2- Sao Paulo FC 1
The Eagles are soaring. After a strong start to their Bundesliga campaign and a ticket to the knockout round of the Europa League, one might expect Eintracht Frankfurt to take it easy during their holiday break. But rather than enjoying the Florida sunshine the club was still hard at work hoping to make the second half of their campaign as successful as the first. On Thursday night they defeated Sao Paulo FC 2-1 in their first match at the 2019 Florida Cup.
Ante Rebic put Frankfurt ahead 1-0 with his penalty kick goal in the ninth minute. Sao Paulo did equalize in the 55th minute with a strike from Nene. But Frankfurt continued to press the Sao Paulo defense and were rewarded with the three points via an own goal from Igor Vinicius in the 64th minute.
Frankfurt weren’t as lucky in their second match of the tournament, losing 1-0 to Flamengo on Saturday. But considering how. But considering how close both matches were and at the club is coming off of an extended break Manager Adi Hutter should be very pleased with the club’s progress ahead of a very challenging second half.
As Sao Paulo the results didn’t get any better against Ajax, losing 4-2 on Saturday. They are coming off of a Campeonato in which they finished fifth, high enough to earn a spot in the Copa Libertadores but still likely short of their supporters lofty expectations. They will hope for greater success this season when the Serie A kicks off again in April.
