On January 16, 2015 the NWSL will hold its annual college draft and there is quite a bit of Cascadia flavor.
Both Portland and Seattle will be picking players that will more likely be supporting cast members as each boast pretty deep returning squads. But, depth and development is always important so it will be worth watching to see the areas the clubs look to shore up.
The listing of players potentially eligible to be drafted was released recently by the NWSL and the list includes many local prospects from Cascadia region schools and those who were recruited elsewhere.
The UW has a few names on the list including Chelsea Archer and Jaclyn Softli, with in state rivals WSU goalkeeper Gurveen Clair and Nicole Setterlund also making the preliminary list cut. Other local schools like Eastern Washington and Seattle U have a player each listed in Cassandra Black and Stephanie Verdoia respectively. Oregon shows up with Kiyomi Cook & Abigail Steele.
None of these players are guaranteed to be picked, but the Cascadia flavor of the 2015 NWSL draft couldn’t hurt local schools in the recruiting wars.
