Although the USMNT and Canada may not have qualified for Russia, that does not mean there are no North Americans playing international football this summer.
Regular readers of Prost Amerika will know of our support for the Cascadian identity, and we were of course the first site to cover all three top level Cascadian clubs, Portland, Seattle and Vancouver starting in their USL days.
That’s why we are very proud to be an official primary sponsor of the Cascadia side that will play in this summer’s ConIFA World Football Cup, a competition for states, minorities, stateless peoples and regions who are unaffiliated with FIFA. Abhkazia are the current champions.
The 2018 competition takes place in London and Cascadia have been drawn to play Barawa, Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man) and Tamil Eelam, the Tamil populated part of northern Sri Lanka. Barawa is a port town in the southwestern Lower Shebelle region of Somalia and the capital of the southwestern Somalia state.
Cascadia kick off on May 31 however against Ellan Vannin at Gander Green Lane, home of Sutton United, a ground that saw the host side take on Arsenal in last season’s FA Cup.
They then face Barawa at Colston Avenue Football Stadium on June 2, home of Carshalton Athletic.
Finally they travel to Rotherhithe to face the Tamils at Fisher FC’s stadium in the hope of progressing out of the group stage.
