Venezuela came out unexpected victors on Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field. A long, lobbed effort by Alejandro Guerra caught Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera off his line. Muslera was, however, able to get enough of the ball with his fingertips, propelling the ball off of his crossbar. Salomon Rondon did what all good poachers do, and pounced on the loose ball, hammering home the winner in the 33rd minute. Venezuela co-leads group C with 6 points with Mexico. Uruguay was knocked out with the loss, but still have one game to play before they can go home and rest. Venezuela plays Mexico with the #1 spot at stake in group C, which could be the difference between playing favorites Argentina, or potentially Chile.
